Criminal Background Checks - Understanding Some Of Your Options

If you have your own business and need a larger workforce, then you may want to start hiring employees as soon as possible. If you do this, then you should make sure that you are hiring competent and trustworthy individuals that you can rely on. One way you can ensure this is to invest in a criminal record service. This service provides you with a criminal background check for all prospective employees. There are a few things you should know before contacting someone for the services.

There Are Different Types Of Criminal Background Checks

When you ask for a criminal background check, you should understand that there are a wide variety of different checks that can be completed. These include county, state, federal, and national checks. County checks are simple background checks that can provide you with a good deal of information. County checks are often completed first and in conjunction with other types of searches. The background information goes back to about seven years. This is the timeframe that criminal records are kept within the county court's office. Most court cases are filed through and tried in the county court system. If there is something to find out about a potential employee, a county search is likely to reveal it.

County court case checks do have some challenges, especially since there is not a national database that can be searched. It can be time consuming to come up with results within a short period of time. This is not an issue when state, federal, and national checks are performed. Most of these court systems have searchable databases that are relatively easy to navigate. State record searches will often produce some of the same information that a county check will, but it may not be as complete as the county record system.

Federal checks are used to uncover information about federal crimes. Tax evasion, drug trafficking, bank robbery, kidnapping, and tax fraud are just a few examples of federal crimes. National checks uncover information on crimes that may have happened in another county than the one you are currently living in.

Driving Record Checks Can Be Completed Separately

While you may be concerned about your employees possibly having a criminal record, you may not be as worried about misdemeanors that happened several years prior. If your employees will be driving on the job, then you may be more concerned about a driving record check. These checks can be completed separately than other criminal background checks. If you have a small budget or if you need a quick and simple background check, then this may be the best choice.

A driving record check will reveal the driving record of the applicant. Accidents and tickets will appear on the record. Suspensions, revocations, and restrictions will be noted as well. The type of license that the applicant has will also appear on the check. For example, if you require commercial drivers with Class A license, then the check will indicate if this is the type that the individual has. Also, the number of points on the license as well as accident information will be provided.

DMV records are commonly used when a driving record check is completed. The license number can often be used to complete the check, but this is not always required. The full name of the applicant as well as the date of birth can be used instead.

If you want to hire the best employees, then you should complete criminal background checks during the application process. You do have different options when it comes to the investigations, so make sure to speak with a criminal record services company to better understand exactly what you need.
